Situated some 68 miles / 110 km south-east of the city of Berlin, the Spree Forest this enormous nature reser covers over 120,000 acres / 48,000 hectares. The Spree Forest is a thick wooded area with over 620 miles / 1,000 km of waterways and this is where the main part of the River Spree flows, before running into Berlin and then on to the sea.
There are numerous opportunities for walking and cycling in the forest, and other activities include some watersports and boat tours. The harbour in Lübbenau, or the smaller harbours in Lübben or Burg, provide the best points to begin your excursion.
There are frequent trains that depart from Königs Wusterhausen in south-east Berlin (40 minutes), Bahnhof Zoo (1.5 hours) and Ostbahnhof (1 hour).
