The Gendarmenmarkt is one of Berlin's most splendid plazas, and is home to a collection of magnificent neoclassical buildings. Leading Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel designed the Schauspielhaus, which is now known as the Konzerthaus Berlin.
Situated closeby are two churches, the Deutsche Dom - featuring an exhibition on German history dating from the 1800s to present day; and the Franzosische Dom - offering a viewing platform at the top of its tall tower and is also home to the Huguenot Museum.
